Energy Deregulation by States
Electricity Providers in Texas: Stream Energy
Stream
Gas & Electric Ltd. was originally established in Texas in 2004 and is now one of the largest privately-held companies
in Dallas. It provides electricity service to customers in four states that deregulated their electricity markets - Texas,
Georgia, Pennsylvania and Maryland. Rob Snyder, Lisa Holliday and John Littlejohn are the top corporate executives of
the company and also serve on the Board of Directors. Over the last few years, Stream Energy was able to sustain significant
growth which has given it the ability to expand its customer base.
Charitable Efforts
Stream Energy is community minded, and has partnered with a charity called Captain Hope's Kids, which is a nonprofit organization that seeks to help homeless children in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On July 1, 2011, the company announced that it donated almost 75,000 diapers to that cause. It also pre-registered for a specialty Texas license plate. A portion of the revenue from the license plate sales will benefit Captain Hope’s Kids. They want their customers to know that they are looking to improve their community however they can.
Ignite Energy
Stream Energy is the parent company to Ignite, which sells electricity contracts through a multi-level marketing system. This subsidiary was also started in 2004. The two companies are linked very closely in the media and in presentations offered to potential sales associates. It utilizes independent sales brokers to attract new customers and actually provides those customers with the opportunity to become a sales broker themselves, so that they can earn supplemental income.
Environmental Initiatives
Stream Energy prides itself on positive employee relations and quality customer service experiences. It also has initiated environmentally conscious actions, including the Green & Clean Plan, which provides customers with the option to purchase electricity specifically created from renewable energy sources. The sources used to generate this type of electricity include solar power, wind power and geothermal power. The idea behind this initiative is to help customers who are more concerned about the environment to live a greener lifestyle.
